22 Oct 2020, Sydney. ELSIS’ EAP programs will now be accepted under University of New England’s (UNE) English Language Requirements for Admission Rule (ELRA) and English Language Requirements Higher than the University Minimum Annex.

The university will accept students who have successfully completed the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program from a non-university NEAS-accredited English Language Prover that has a formal agreement with UNE under which it provides an equivalent EAP Program.

This means ELSIS students who have satisfactorily completed the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program at the IELTS 6.0 level will be eligible to meet UNE’s English requirements for what are called “standard” courses.

“This constitutes a major partnership in ELSIS’ continuous efforts to become a premium provider when it comes to Academic Preparation Programs,” stated Thorsten Wilhelm, General Manager of ELSIS.

“The University of New England is delighted to partner with ELSIS to provide students with a quality English language pathway to achieve their higher education goals”, stated Ingrid Elliston, Director International at UNE.

NEAS recently released its endorsement of ELSIS as a Quality Online Provider. ELSIS’s remote delivery model is enhanced by the incorporation of E2Classroom, a state-of-the-art learning management system purpose-built for languages and filled with additional quality learning content.

In partnership with TAFE NSW, ELSIS also offers a range of pathway programs that provide guaranteed entry into a number of Australian VET providers / universities. ELSIS’ courses provide a direct pathway into TAFE NSW certificate, diploma and bachelor degree courses.

“We are on a growth path, so our students can continue to grow,” added Mr. Wilhelm. “Our aim to provide high quality education so they can have every avenue to pursue a successful career.”

Sydney, 23 April: ECA is excited to announce the acquisition of IT Masters, an industry-based education company that partners with Charles Sturt University (CSU) to develop a unique series of online Master degree qualifications that are accessible, affordable, accredited and relevant for students and professionals seeking careers in IT in Australia.

This strategic acquisition of IT Masters provides ECA the opportunity to offer quality education to domestic students and make an inroad into the online learning space in particular. ECA has predominantly focused on the international student market in the past, having supported over 7000 students in their higher education and career aspirations.

IT Masters has been in a partnership with Charles Sturt University for over 17 years, specialising in remote and online delivery of Master of IT courses. This partnership has established CSU as a market leader in postgraduate IT courses in Australia.

IT Masters covers student acquisition largely by offering free short courses online, a certain proportion of this student cohort then converts to full fee-paying master students. The company’s online Master degrees are fully accredited under the Australian Government Qualifications Framework and offer students unique opportunities to explore career paths in the Information and Communication Technology industry, which remains one of the most employable sectors with Australia and around the globe.

“Our aim is to expand our offerings and continue to make a difference for the domestic student base as well,” states Gavin Dowling, Chief Operating Officer at ECA. “The ECA management and CSU management are very excited by this partnership to further develop the offering and look forward to enhancing student experience in every way.”

ECA is doing more in this time of crisis to offer students and professionals a way to transition to the workforce or upskill with online learning. To that end, ECA has recently developed its online learning platform ECA Online (EOL) offering a range of diploma certificate and graduate certificate programs at ECA. The company has also established a student support fund in response to the COVID-19 situation to assist students with various scholarships off tuition fees and flexible payment options across its colleges and partner universities.

With the developing situation around COVID-19 coronavirus, we believe that encouraging ‘social distancing’ (avoidance of unnecessary groups and interactions) is the need of the hour and in the best interest of everyone.

Hence, we will be moving to a partial shutdown. This means that students will be moved to remote (online and digitally supported) learning.

Please note, we will NOT be closing the campuses. All campuses will remain open for now, but with limited staff. Students will be able to attend, but not for classes. Students can get in touch with Student Services for any questions. Further details available campus by campus and college by college.

It is not clear yet how long this will be in place, but best estimates are that we will continue with the remote study for some time – more than a few weeks. We will, of course be providing updates in the meantime.

  • VU Sydney: will suspend study for one week for students from 23 March, resuming study remotely from 30 March. All staff will continue to work throughout.
  • Swinburne Sydney: has suspended study for one week this week, resuming study remotely from 23 March. All staff will continue to work throughout.
  • APIC: will suspend study for one week for students from 23 March, resuming study remotely from 30 March. All staff will continue to work throughout.
  • ELSIS: will move to remote study from 23 March. All staff will continue to work throughout.
    More information: https://www.elsis.edu.au/elsis-remote-delivery/
  • ECA College: Classes are approaching the end of term. In the week beginning 23rd March, all end of term review weeks will be conducted remotely (via zoom).
Thereafter, there is a break and classes will resume from week commencing 13 April but be delivered remotely via zoom.
  • Professional Year: The governing bodies of the Professional Year along with the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) are reviewing all provider recommendations for offering the PY via online/ remote delivery. ECA PY awaits the approval for remote/online can we shift to online delivery.

In the meantime, students are asked to come to college as per normal until this situation changes. ECA PY anticipates a shift to remote/online delivery for PY students will happen very soon and are preparing to ensure minimal disruption to student’s studies.

Students are advised to check your emails regularly in relation to updates – within a fast-changing situation.

As you all know, the Australian government has moved to restrict visitors to Australia by imposing 14 days of self-isolation on all new arrivals, effective from Monday 16 March. This is one of the measures designed to help reduce the spread of the virus which continues to develop around the world.

Within ECA we are continuing to monitor developments and take advice on the best way to proceed. This includes preparing plans for the possibility of a future temporary shutdown of campuses with a move to students studying remotely. The planning will ensure that we are ready for this possible scenario. For now, however, we continue as normal and there is no reason to believe that the risk has increased significantly for most.

Once again, we urge everyone to take extra special care with personal hygiene – especially washing of hands – and to ensure that anyone who is showing flu-like symptoms (coughing and fever) self-isolates at home and seeks medical advice. This is in your own interest and in the interest of others.

If you are anxious or have any questions please speak with Student Services.

Please monitor your emails regularly as this will be the most effective way for us to provide you with updates.

The recent 2019 incarnation of the Australian International Education Conference in Perth served as a forum to celebrate IDP Australia’s 50th anniversary. General Manager VET and ELICOS Thorsten Wilhelm represented ELSIS as part of a themed session on good practice in, and the future of, pathway programs. They presented on “The future of pathway programs – leading the way with the entrenchment model”.

Thorsten Wilhelm said entering tertiary academic life in an English-speaking country can be daunting for students.

Although pathway programs are designed to equip students with the tools required to succeed in their tertiary studies, traditionally, these programs have been conducted in isolation.

“The future of pathway programs is the provision of continuing nurture and support through an entrenchment model, developed in collaboration and consultation with academics of further studies courses.”

Participants of Thorsten’s session learned about the creation of sound and holistic pathway programs in collaboration and consultation with VET and higher education providers. The session was based on the implementation of ELSIS’ recently launched entrenchment model pathway program, which sets students up for success by supporting them throughout their journey.

ELSIS’ new Academic Preparation Program, which has been developed in close collaboration with academics from partner universities, pursues a topic-centric approach and includes guided research sessions, an Academic Culture Chapter, as well as an Entrenchment Model. During the first six weeks of their university study, ELSIS gives students ongoing support to ease their entry into the academic world and help their transition into their tertiary studies.

This new Academic Preparation Program aims to continuously develop and integrate new materials into its courses and is based around close collaboration between all stakeholders. This includes teachers, academics and, most importantly, listening to the ever-changing needs of international students.
